Reports indicate that three armed robbers, one of which was wearing a pig mask, tried to break into the Bellagio’s Rolex store with a sledgehammer. The police reported that all the shots fired were inside the store after it was closed.
Metro Lt. Carlos Hank said the robbery was like something right out of a movie. The robbers wore “dark, nice suits” and all of them had animal masks on. The gunmen reportedly grabbed several items from the Rolex store and then took off their disguises as they were leaving.
Police said that three well-dressed men exited the parking garage when their car apparently wouldn’t start. They tried to carjack another individual at gunpoint but were unsuccessful. They eventually did escape on foot, according to the Las Vegas Sun.
Police who were called at 12:50 a.m. questioned and detained several people. Detectives have no leads at this time. “We have some people going through the process,” Hank said, “doing interviews and finding out where they were and what they were doing.”
Eyewitnesses took to Twitter to report what was happening. “Everyone running. I’m currently ducked on the floor under a table,” one user wrote.
Twitter user Kira Kamil described seeing the burglary. “Literally just witnessed an armed robber in a pig mask at a Rolex store at the Bellagio & then his arrest,” she said.
Authorities have not revealed how much was taken but early reports indicate it could be well over $100,000. Parts of the hotel remained closed to the public during the investigation. If cops are unsure how to proceed, they might want to watch Oceans Eleven for some tips.
