1. The suspected terrorist has been identified as Omar Mateen of Port St. Lucie, Florida. He is said to be twenty nine years old and was born in New York in the United States.

2. Numerous media sources are indicating that Mateen had ties to Islamic terrorism and may have been investigated by the FBI in the past and/or been on the terror watch list.

According to The Daily Beast:

The senior law enforcement source reports that Mateen became a person of interest in 2013 and again in 2014. The Federal Bureau of Investigation at one point opened an investigation into Mateen but subsequently closed the case when it produced nothing that appeared to warrant further investigation.

“He’s a known quantity,” the source said. “He’s been on the radar before.”

3. Mateen shot a police officer during the SWAT raid that ended the incident. The officer’s kevlar helmet likely saved his life.

4. Mateen’s parents are immigrants According to CBS:

“Mateen was born to Afghan parents in 1986. CBS News reports Mateen has no apparent criminal history and that authorities are investigating whether he had ties to Islamic terrorism.”

5. Mateen was a licensed concealed carrier and a licensed security guard in the state of Florida.

6. Mateen was registered as a Democrat for voting purposes.


7. According to reports that indicate at least 50 people dead, that makes Mateen the deadlist mass shooter in US history and the deadliest terrorist since the 9/11 attacks.

8. Mateen’s father said that his son was angered by images of two men kissing.

9. An account associated with ISIS has tweeted a photo of Mateen while other accounts associated with Islamic extremism have tweeted support for the attack along with anti-gay rhetoric.
