Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov is hardly a household name in the United States. Yet a video showing the dictator’s prowess with firearms and throwing knives has struck fear into the hearts of the fearless. The Tyrant of Turmnenistan, as Berdymukhamedov is known globally, is clearly not a man to be trifled with.

Take a gander at the video. The man can throw a knife. And he’s clearly no stranger to the .22 LR either. The way he wields his pistol will strike fear into the hearts of his opponents.

Actually, the video below has been altered, slightly, by those opponents. They’ve added some helpful clips from an old Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, and given it a suitably 80’s action movie soundtrack. The Commando updates really set the scene.

Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, before he was a dictator, was a dentist. So he’s actually much scarier than he appears on camera. The Daily Mail reports that he ran the footage on his state-run media channel to boost his image. In addition to his skills with a rifle, he also claims to be a DJ, and a crooner of ballads.

“Picking up one of the types of weapons presented to him, the head of state demonstrated the precision of his aim, which served as evidence of his high level of military readiness,” reported the state news agency.

“After that, President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov demonstrated his mastery of target-shooting with a pistol.” Yeah, not so good. His form was all off, and that left his shot placement a bit erratic.

That does not stop his adoring fans from clapping.

“The commander-in-chief then demonstrated his skills in the artful handling of [knives] by precisely casting daggers at a distant target.” One of those must have scared the paper bad guy good, as it only stuck in his hat.

In Turkmenistan Berdymukhamedov is called “Arkadag,” which The Mail says means The Protector. He reportedly gave himself the nickname, likely becasue his last name was so hard to pronounce.
