The Phoenix Police Department released the heart-pounding footage in an effort to bring awareness to what could happen when you drink and drive. The video shows two pedestrians with a stroller walking through the intersection, when a car can be seen blasting through the red light.

Thankfully for the pedestrians, 27-year-old Shannon Vivar was driving her car and happened to be in the right place at the right time. Vivar was with her mother and three-year-old daughter at the time of the crash.

She was taken to a nearby hospital where she received attention for non-life threatening injuries, while her other family members were uninjured. “I don’t remember if I sped up or pushed the brake, but once I got hit, I was lost,” Vivar said.

The drunk driver, Ernesto Otanez Oveso, tried to flee the scene of the crash but was stopped by good Samaritans. According to witnesses, Oveso threatened to stab the people trying to stop him from fleeing.

Police recognized the drunk driver as Oveso who had four warrants out for his arrest. In addition to his D.U.I. arrest, Oveso was also charged with aggravated assault and being a prohibited possessor of a firearm.

Those on social media were quick to tout Vivar as a hero, but she doesn’t see it that way. “Even though it wasn’t my intention to, the way I see it was, it was meant to happen that way.”

Various social media users applauded her, but some were quick to point out that she was simply at the right place at the right time.

Regardless if it was intentional or not, there is no denying Vivar saved lives that day.
