It isn’t uncommon for fans to rush the field after their favorite football team upsets their opponent. What is uncommon is for the players to get involved when a single unruly fan rushes the field. This was put on full display during a timeout in the third quarter of a college football game Saturday night.

The incident took place when the No. 13 Oregon Ducks beat the California Golden Bears 17-7 late Saturday night.
While those at home were unaware that the event even took place, the thousands in attendance were treated to a show. A student began running circles on the field, only speeding up when he was about to get caught by security.
While it looked like the security guards put in minimal effort to catch the elusive student, Oregon’s running back Cyrus Habibi-Likio received a standing ovation after he ran the student down and tackled him.
In fact, Habibi-Liko held the student down until security could get a hold of him. The 6-foot-1, 222-pound running back told reporters after the game that he had no intention of hurting the student but simply wanted to keep the game moving so his teammates’ muscles didn’t tighten up.
“We were down and he was kind of taking a while — prayers out to him, I hope he’s not hurt,” Habibi-Likio said. “I had no intention of hurting him, we just need to get the game going.
“This is the Pac-12 North, and this is a Pac-12 game, we gotta get going or the result would have been different.”
Oregon’s coach Mario Cristobal didn’t divulge much when it came to his take on the tackle. “I’ve heard a lot of commentary about it; I really don’t have all the details about it so I don’t even know if it was a tackle,” Cristobal said jokingly. “I’ll let you guys fill me in.”

When a reporter asked Cristobal if he thought the tackle was good form, Cristobal said: “[Tackling field-rushing fans] is definitely not a part of practice.”
The student’s stunt could have gone on for quite a while given the slow response time of security. Ah, you gotta love college football.
