Many people have fond memories of the original The Karate Kid movie series, and YouTube Red is looking to cash in on that nostalgia by releasing a new series based on some of the original characters. Cobra Kai will feature William Zabka, reprising his role as Johnny Lawrence, and Ralph Macchio, again in the role of Daniel LaRusso.

The story is based 34 years after the original films, where Johnny will attempt to seek redemption for his defeat in the movie.
While the series was announced last August, fans of The Karate Kid are just now able to enjoy some footage teasing the show.
The trailer features some familiar scenery and hints about the storyline, revolving around the return of the Cobra Kai dojo.
Daniel says, “I just don’t know why you’d ever want to bring back Cobra Kai,” followed by Johnny telling his new students, “We are not trained to be merciful here. Mercy is for the weak.”
The dialog suggests that there is still a rivalry between Daniel and Johnny. Zabka, speaking about his character, said that Johnny is still “rough around the edges,” according to a report by TVweb.
Zabka also alluded to the fact that Johnny is still hung up on his defeat from the films, with that feeling likely encouraging him to reform the dojo.
Macchio has largely been reluctant to participate in projects associated with The Karate Kid, fearing that, if handled poorly, it would damage the reputation of the original films.
However, he became more open to the idea after Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg pitched the storyline, which focuses more on Johnny, similar to how Creed compared to the Rocky franchise
An actual release date has not been identified at this point, but it is likely that the series will hit YouTube Red later in the year.
