There is something unsettling about seeing something that is human-like, but then, isn’t. It’s called the uncanny valley, and Boston Dynamics, owned by Google’s parent company, Alphabet, is certainly trying to enter the uncanny valley in regards to human like movement.
The company just unveiled new footage of their Atlas robot traversing uneven ground in the snow.
As you can tell from the video the robot is able to withstand setbacks, such as missteps and tripping, as well as physical exertions from third parties. Up until now, this has been skill enjoyed only by humans and other land animals.
I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords.
