With Deep Blue winning at chess and his cousin Watson taking Jeopardy, robots appearing in manufacturing, and self driving cars from Google, it seems like the human race is rushing toward its own obsolescence. Today, in a dash of irony, one of the most outspoken critics of AI development took a great step forward, creating a robot serpent to charge other robots.
Bending like a flesh and blood serpent, the machine finds the charging plug of the Tesla Model S Sedan. This while Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, has repeatedly spoken against an ‘AI arms race’. He, Stephen Hawking, and Steve Wozniak signed a letter warning against such just last month. Elon recognized the irony on Twitter, admitting that ‘it seemed kinda wrong’.
