During a recent Cruz campaign event in Illinois, a Trump supporter who was at the rally in protest yelled from the crowd, “Go back to Canada!”
Cruz addressed the heckler, saying, “I appreciate free speech. Thank you for being here,” Cruz said, as he hushed boos from the crowd.
“We will be respectful. See sir, one difference between this and a Donald Trump rally is, I’m not asking anyone to punch you in the face.”
Cruz recently said the following to CBS News during an interview:
When you have a campaign that disrespects the voters, when you have a campaign that affirmatively encourages violence, when you have a campaign that is facing allegations of physical violence against members of the press, you create an environment that only encourages this sort of nasty discourse.
