The Winter Olympics are in full swing. While many are complaining about the bitter winds at the outdoor venues, others are heating up. Curling, typically the most easily mocked sport of the winter games, has many new fans this year. What’s compelled them to tune in? It isn’t the competition so much as one competitor.

Russian curler Anastasia Bryzgalova, 25, has captured the hearts of fans. The curler has become a star in Pyeongchang. Her new fans can’t stop gushing about her intense stare, or her stunning looks.

Bryzgalova is married to her curling partner Alexander Krushelnitskiy. The pair won the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Karlstad, Sweden in 2016.

“Anastasia took up the sport in 2009 after being attracted by an advertisement for a curling club at an ice sports complex and has a master’s degree from the Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health,” The Daily Mail writes.

When she’s not curling, Bryzgalova works at the gym and plays volleyball.

Those hoping that Bryzgalova might bring home the gold, though, will have to wait. Russia isn’t competing in the games becasue the International Olympic Committee banned Russian athletes after finding evidence of a state-sponsored doping scandal.

“However, 168 evidently clean athletes are taking part under the banner of ‘Olympic Athlete from Russia’, wearing neutral colours,” the Mail writes.

The husband and wife pair of Anastasia and Alexander were beaten in their first batch by the brother/sister team of Becca and Matt Hamilton from the United States.
