North Carolina mathematics teacher Erin McAuliffe, 25, was arrested Thursday after it came to light that she was having sexual relations with three male students at the school where she worked. She is being held on $20,000 bail and was charged with three counts of sexual activity with a student and one count of indecent liberties with a minor.

McAuliffe was fired on May 4 once administrators first learned of her conduct. The local police department began an investigation into the matter the very next day after they received a call from a school administrator at Rocky Mount Preparatory reporting McAuliffe’s misconduct with the students.
Law enforcement conducted interviews with over 1,300 students from grades kindergarten to 12th grade. The staff of the charter school was also interviewed, and officers learned that she was having sex with two 17-year-old boys and one 16-year-old boy.
“We have been fully cooperative with local law enforcement during the course of their handling of this matter,” a statement from the school said.
All of the sexual encounters were allegedly off campus and detectives suggested the encounters took place at McAuliffe’s home. Her first court appearance is scheduled for June 12.
Public records show that McAuliffe is not married and has no children of her own. McAuliffe graduated from Methodist University in 2014 with a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics.
She worked in a law office doing data entry for a year before leaving to be the mathematics teacher at Rocky Mount Preparatory in August 2016, according to her LinkedIn profile.
This isn’t the first time a woman teacher was arrested for having sexual relations with underage students. Amber Turnage, 39, a former biology teacher at Provine High School in Jackson, Mississippi, was arrested for recording herself having sex with a 17-year-old student and then bribing him to keep quiet.
