There are two great things about covering the news: There is always something new happening each day, and you never know what you’ll find once you begin investigating. Sometimes a story just blows you away because it’s so heartfelt, or tragic, or…well, strange. This story is one of the stranger ones.
A California man was arrested Wednesday night after he allegedly shot somebody with a shotgun shell full of… Rice Krispies. We know, what was he thinking?
Well, apparently, there’s no real answer to that question. Officers responded to a call of a man who had sustained a single gunshot wound to the hand. Police indicate that this was a transient to transient attack. In other words, both the victim and the suspect were homeless or just passing through the area.
Neither had any permanent ties to the area. The victim of the attack was transported to a local California hospital where it was reported that his injuries were not life-threatening.
The suspect, 29-year-old Timothy Glass Jr., fled on a bike when officers arrived on the scene. Following a brief search, Glass was later found hiding out in a large homeless encampment. A detective suffered minor injuries after an altercation with Glass as he was taken into custody.
Glass was charged with resisting arrest and probation violation and is currently in jail. It was later revealed that Glass didn’t actually use a shotgun to shoot the “Rice Krispy” shotgun shell. Instead, it was reported that he had used a flare gun to shoot the shell filled with cereal.
“Based on the investigation it appears Glass fired a flare gun loaded with a shotgun shell filled with Rice Krispies,” police said.
The victim, who refused to be named, decided not to press charges on Glass for the “firearm” incident and signed a no further action form.
