CNN has announced that comedienne Kathy Griffin will no longer appear alongside Anderson Cooper during the New Year’s Eve broadcast after controversial photos of the star holding a wax representation of President Donald Trump’s severed head provoked public outrage. Griffin also lost her commercial deal with Squatty Potty a mere three weeks after the endorsement agreement was penned.

As reported by WFAA, CNN spokesperson Shimrit Sheetrit released a statement regarding the firing of the star stating, “We found what [Griffin] did disgusting and offensive.”

Cooper sent out a tweet saying, “For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in,” continuing, “It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate.”

As reported by Yahoo, Bobby Edwards, the CEO of Squatty Potty, said, “We were shocked and disappointed to learn about the image Ms. Griffin shared today.” He went on to say, “It was deeply inappropriate and runs contrary to the core values out company stands for. In responses, Squatty Potty has suspended its ad campaign featuring Ms. Griffin. We have acted swiftly and decisively to demonstrate our commitment to a culture of decency, civility, and tolerance.”

Late on Tuesday, after the photograph, taken by celebrity photographer Tyler Shields, had circulated, Kathy Griffin posted an apology on Twitter in the form of a video. “The image was too disturbing,” said Griffin. “It offends people. It wasn’t funny. I get it.”

Griffin has also lost other gigs since the photograph went public, including a show scheduled at the Route 66 Casino in Albuquerque, New Mexico scheduled for July.

President Trump also took to Twitter to give his opinion on the photograph, saying, “Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!”

It is also possible the Secret Service will launch an investigation. As stated in a tweet from the official Secret Service account, they are “On it.”

Griffin did remove the photo from her Twitter feed and requested that Shields take down the photo as well.
