UPDATE 4:45 pm: The updates from New York continue to come in. The shooter is dead. One other person has been killed, and five others are currently being treated for injuries sustained in the shooting. It is unclear if all of those are gunshots wounds.
A spokeswoman for the New York City Police Department has stated multiple people were shot at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital. Initial reports suggest that five to six people were injured by the shooter.
Details about the gunman’s identity have not been released, but, as reported by ABC 7, local authorities have confirmed he is dead.
As reported by the New York Times, a Fire Department official said three of those who were shot during the incident at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in the Bronx were doctors.
The gunman was reportedly described as a tall, thin male who was wearing a blue shirt and a white lab count.
The official stated, “It looks like an employee of the hospital, that’s what we’re hearing, unconfirmed, right now.”
The victims of the shooting were on the 16th and 17th floors, and the area has been secured by police since approximately 3:30pm local time.
NYPD tweeted about the incident, telling people to avoid the area, at 12:20 PM ET.
The ATF then confirmed special agents were being sent to the scene.
