The parents of a one-year-old girl came home early and found their child’s babysitter molesting her. The family forgot some food assistance paperwork, documents they needed for their store trip. They had left the girl with Jayson Newlun, a family friend, and returned to retrieve the items. They found Newlun fondling their daughter, and the child’s father took action.

The couple had left their daughter in Newlun’s care before heading to a local store in Kansas City, Missouri. After leaving their house, they realized they forgot something and headed back home approximately five minutes after heading out.

As reported by Fox 4, the girl’s mother caught Newlun, 26, allegedly assaulting her daughter in the little girl’s bedroom.

She informed the girl’s father of what was occurring, and he rushed into the room and tackled the suspect. He also struck Newlun with a dresser drawer and punched him several times according to investigators.

Speaking with investigators, the mother said that prior to the arrival of any police officers, she said to Newlun: “I hope you go down for this.” She states that he replied, saying, “I do too.”

Once officers arrived on the scene, and Newlun was read his Miranda rights, he declined to comment about the incident and requested an attorney.

Social media users were quick to air their opinions, with many suggesting Newlun is lucky he didn’t sustain worse injuries.

Newlun has been charged with statutory sodomy and child molestation in the first according to the Clay County prosecutor. He is currently being held on a $250,000 cash-only bond.

If convicted, Newlun faces a minimum of 10 years in prison. He is next scheduled to be in court on July 18.
