A couple that was practicing the iconic lift from the film “Dirty Dancing” ended up in the hospital after one was left unconscious and the other struggled to breathe when the recreation didn’t go as planned. Sharon Price and her fiancé, Andy Price, wanted to perform the move during their wedding. The results of their attempt were captured on film.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Andy and Sharon were both fans of the 1987 film classic, having watched it more than 30 times. They thought adding the lift to their wedding day ceremony would be an appropriate tribute and made an attempt to complete the move at around 9:30 pm while in the Weston-Super-Mare pub beer garden.
Sharon began by running toward her partner, attempting to provide enough momentum for her fiancé to complete the lift.
Things didn’t turn out as planned, with Andy, 51, being knocked out when the pair collided. Sharon also hit the ground, ending up sprawled out on the lawn.
After family members had realized the results weren’t a joke, they checked on the couple and found Andy unconscious and Sharon struggling to breathe. They contacted emergency services, and the pair were brought to Southmead Hospital in nearby Bristol for care.
Speaking about the incident, Sharon said, “I have always loved Dirty Dancing, and it is one of my all-time favorite films.” She continued, “We were in the beer garden, and my niece and nephew were messing around trying to do the lift.”
Sharon went on to say, “So I looked at Andy and suggested that we have it as out first dance at our wedding. We immediately set about trying to recreate that iconic moment. But it’s fair to say it didn’t go to plan.
“When I ran at Andy, he tried to lift me, but we just collided. At first, our family thought we were just messing about, but they soon realized we had actually really hurt ourselves.”
Sharon said the doctors laughed when they were told the story of how the injuries occurred.
“We are okay now, but Andy has a bruised back and neck, and my back still hurts,” said Sharon.
