San Francisco backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been in the national media’s spotlight this year for his national anthem protest in support of minorities who are “oppressed.”

Now he has revealed exactly what he thinks about the American flag. The flag that stands for liberty and freedom, not to mention, the flag that many American heroes have died for, is nothing more than a piece of cloth to Kaepernick.

Kaepernick told reporters, “At the end of the day the flag is just a piece of cloth and I am not going to value a piece of cloth over people’s lives. That’s just not something I can do, it’s not something I feel morally right doing and my character won’t allow me to do that.”

The response comes after a member of the Supreme Court deemed his protest “dumb.” The backup player added, “It is disappointing to hear a Supreme Court justice call a protest against injustices and oppression ‘stupid, dumb’ in reference to players doing that.”

The “protest” has been spreading throughout all sports in the United States. A disgusting amount of athletes from high schools to the pros  have joined in. Even some cheerleaders have joined the ranks.

If Kaepernick should worry about anything, it should be how he handles himself on the field because as it stands right now, he is going to be remembered for his clownish behavior over his skill on the field.

Kaepernick, who was once regarded as a premiere quarterback in the NFL, has been sitting on the bench for the whole season. He is finally getting his opportunity to play during this weekend’s game.

Kaepernick should be looking to set a strong example for athletes in the U.S. If you feel that our nation’s flag is just “a piece of cloth,” then somebody should remind you that the jersey you wear and make your millions from is just a piece of cloth as well.
