The situation is currently ongoing and the facility is on complete lock down with all gates closed and blocked by police.

According to local media reports:

Earlier today, Marshall Space Flight Center issued an alert about an “emergency situation” near the Sparkman Center. Redstone later issued a Tweet confirming reports of a possible active shooter.

The Sparkman Center is the headquarters for the Army’s Aviation and Missile Command on the Arsenal. An Arsenal spokesman was not immediately available for comment.

The nature of the emergency was not immediately clear.

So far, no casualties have been reported, however, due to the lock-down and sensitive nature of the location information is not forthcoming.

The facility employs over 40,000 across a massive facility. Only about 1,500 of those employees are uniformed military members.
