On Tuesday, a 14-year-old boy in Washington State stole his mother’s red SUV so he could drive with his friends to purchase some fireworks. Initially, everything went fairly smoothly as the teens were able to acquire the fireworks and get back to the house safely. However, a rolled down window and Roman candle fight ultimately created quite a scene.
As reported by Q13 Fox, after purchasing the fireworks, the group proceeded to have a Roman candle fight. One of the fireworks entered the SUV through the open window, catching the vehicle on fire.
Speaking about the incident, King County Sheriff’s Sgt. Cindi West stated the SUV was parked in the driveway during the Roman candle fight.
Skyway Fire tweeted out photos of the vehicle, clearly showing the extent of the damage.
The SUV is likely a total loss, with damage starting at the hood and ending at the hatch in the back.
No one was injured in the fire, and property damage appears to be limited to the SUV and its contents. The mother of the 14-year-old boy is not pressing charges.
The sheriff’s office is still investigating the incident based on the fact that the boys were able to acquire the fireworks. West asserts it is illegal in King County to sell fireworks to individuals under the age of 16.
