President Donald Trump enjoys a very high approval rating among the troops he commands. It is safe to say that a major of veterans supported him in his campaign. Yet some vets are speaking out against his policies and trying to catch his attention.

A video advertisement for VoteVets aired recently. It ran during a morning broadcast of MSNBC. The designers hoped President Trump’s penchant for watching television news might give him a front row seat for the commercial. And the message is resoundingly clear.

“You want to be a legitimate President, sir? Then act like one.”

When the video opens, an Afghanistan War Veteran who lost his leg in combat, is working out in his garage. The visual of the man lifting weights has a voice-over explaining what he’s doing.

“President Trump.  I hear you watch the morning shows.  Here’s what I do every morning…  Look, you lost the popular vote… You’re having trouble drawing a crowd…  And your approval rating keeps sinking…  But kicking thousands of my fellow veterans off their health insurance by killing the Affordable Care Act, and banning Muslims won’t help…  And that’s not the America I sacrificed for….  You want to be a legitimate President, sir?  Then act like one.”

As of yet, the President hasn’t responded directly to the message.

“Since the White House comment line is down, and Donald Trump hasn’t set up that veterans hotline he promised, we’re going to go where we know Donald Trump is listening – Morning Joe, and the other shows that he obsesses over,”
VoteVets Vice Chair and Navy Veteran Peter Kauffmann explained in a press release. “He’s going to hear the message of this ad again and again.  We’re officially putting Mr. Trump on notice.”
