As tensions with North Korea continue to skyrocket, Kim Jong Un is releasing images he hopes will make the United States think twice about a preemptive strike on the rogue nuclear nation. Only these images aren’t about nuclear weapons, but the North Korean special forces that would rise in the event of any attack.
The troops marched through the streets of the Pyongyang Saturday, marking the annual “Day of the Sun” celebrations. The soldiers are reportedly highly skilled.
In a typical display of force, they all carried rifles with tubular magazines and had painted their faces. The North Korean regime even had equipped their top tier soldiers with night vision goggles.
“Once Supreme Commander Kim Jong-un issues an order they will charge with resolve to thrust a sword through the enemy’s heart like lightning over Mount Paektu [the country’s highest peak],” a North Korean state TV broadcaster said .
This is the first time that North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un has displayed his special forces unit. This most recent celebration marked the 105th birthday of Kim Jong-un’s late grandfather.
The United States military seemed nonplussed by the celebrations. Vice President Mike Pence flew to South Korea on Sunday and delivered a message to the 28,000 US troops stationed there. “The era of strategic patience is over,” Pence said.
In addition to the supposedly well trained soldiers, North Korea also said that they’ve developed a new type of missile, one that’s capable of hitting the United States. These rumors, though, aren’t being taken seriously. They claimed to have the missiles on display during the parade, but they were encased in mobile launchers.
Choe Ryong Hae, one of Kim Jong Un’s advisors, boasted that North Korea would “beat down enemies with the power of nuclear justice.” Yet the nation is having difficulty even getting their missiles to launch. Their most recent test on Saturday exploded on the launch pad. North Korean officials claim it was sabotaged by US cyber attacks.
President Trump isn’t backing down. The naval strike group, led by the USS Carl Vinson, remains in the waters off the Korean coast. Its movements are being monitored by Russian and Chinese intelligence vessels.
Here is the video of the complete parade. It is epic.
