Parenting done right? When a father in Texas received messages from his son’s school about the 17-year-old’s behavior, he decided to take matters into his own hands. Brad Howard Jr. couldn’t keep his behavior in check, so last Friday his father (Brad’s namesake) went to school with his son to see the behaviors for himself.
Brad Jr. explained the situation to Buzzfeed. “I like to talk a lot, and so my teacher kept emailing my dad about it,” he said.
His father echoed that sentiment. Brad “likes to be the life of the party, which gets him in trouble from time to time.”
So the father went to school with his son, to sit beside him. “Friday is my only day off,” his dad explained. So his wife woke him early and he went back to high school.
He had threatened that he would show up at school, but Brad hadn’t taken him seriously. Then his father showed up, sitting beside him.
“I didn’t even notice him until after I had said hi to all of my friends, but I was super shocked.”
The elder Brad knew what he was getting into, and believed that there was good reason to go. “Mentally,” he said, “I hadn’t prepared to go into a situation like that.”
The guerrilla discipline was a hit within the family. “My dad told my brother if he got another call from the physics teacher complaining he would go sit in his class.. dad got another call,” his sister tweeted.
She posted another picture, later, with almost the same message.
“Dad told B2 if we get another complaint about his behavior from his Physics teacher that he was going to sit in class with him. We got a call yesterday so here is dad this morning!!!!”
“I pray it was a one-time thing,’ Brad Sr. told Buzzfeed. “I don’t think I’d ever do it again.”
While the visit has clearly drawn attention to the parenting strategies, it remains to be seen if the visit will inspire his son to straighten up and fly right.
