Hollywood superstar Channing Tatum has been out of the spotlight lately, choosing instead to spend time with his wife and their 3-year-old daughter Everly. Recently, Tatum wrote an open letter published by Cosmopolitan, in which he discussed the importance of empowering women and the world he wants for his daughter.
In the article, Tatum said he wants his daughter to have the same strong independent spirit as his wife, Jenna Dewan Tatum.
Tatum recalled how Jenna accepted him as he was and never needed him to be someone he wasn’t. “I felt strength, because in that moment, she had accepted every part of me, the good and the bad. And I knew she wasn’t auditioning me or hoping I’d meet some set of expectations,” he wrote.
The 37-year-old actor quickly transitioned to his daughter where he explained how important he felt it was to empower young girls to act and think for themselves.
“We live in a society that has trained men and women to play certain kinds of roles for a long time, and the beauty of this amazing moment we’re living in is that we’re finally starting to break free from those roles,” he explained.
The Magic Mike actor gave a few words of encouragement to women from a man’s perspective.
“I guess if there’s one thing that I think men wish women knew, it’s just that they alone are enough,” he explains. “When more women start to truly feel this power in themselves, the world will become so magical, it makes my head hurt.”
In a society in which young girls are consistently mistreated and Hollywood actors seem to be only concerned with box office sales, it’s a nice change to see an actor who is willing to speak out on a topic that matters and one that he obviously is passionate about.
