Many of Hillary Clinton’s supporters have still not stopped crying, a full week after their candidate managed to lose an election to a man who is, unarguably, the least qualified candidate to have ever headed a major party ticket. But it is funny.
Trump’s supporters are still rolling around on the floor. And Trump himself is likely to laugh all the way to Washington. And someone out there has a good sense of humor, as these Joe Biden inspired memes clearly show.
Biden is an easy target. There’s something about the innocence of his face that makes him a worthy foil for a President like Obama, so capable of looking alternately downtrodden or mad.
Biden seems to lack a poker face. You can easily see what he’s thinking. It is written across his face. That makes him the perfect cartoon character, and fodder for the internet’s meme machines.
And now the Biden/Obama memes are a vehicle for social satire of Trump. Biden was symbolic of an almost child-like innocence in the White House, which was part of why his own presidential candidacy withered so long before the primary season even began. How could he have stood up to Hillary?
No matter. His greatest service now, as his time in D.C. winds down, is to serve as a vehicle to mock Trump. And those liberals out there who have been quietly scheming for more than a year now have full license to attack, mock, shame, lambast, paste, ridicule, humiliate, and laugh at the new President Elect in a way that will forever cement him as the most mocked President in the history of the United States.
See this isn’t just comedy–it is satire. And it gets beyond satire into the sardonic. Sarcasm conveys contempt. Satire exposes weaknesses through mockery, but sardonic adds a darkness meant to do harm.
Clinton’s own actions (email servers, and Benghazi, etc.) undercut her character. Trump should take heed, too. He can’t make himself the laughing stock. That’s a Biden-esque role that Pence can’t fill.
